His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021

12/4/2021

Picture
As we come to terms with the sad news that His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away, our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this time of sadness, as they grieve for a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

His Royal Highness, demonstrated exemplary commitment and dedication to duty to our country and the Commonwealth. Our sadness at this time is shared by people across the world, as we remember him with gratitude and affection.

In accordance with public health advice there will not be a physical book of condolence in Stalbridge. However it is understood that during this period of public grief people may wish to express their sorrow and messages of condolence can made on the national online condolence book  via this link.
In Stalbridge for those who do not have access to a computer the Community Library Management Group have kindly offered to upload any condolence messages posted through their library letter box to the national online book.

In line with current restrictions the Royal Household has requested that members of the public do not leave floral tributes in public places. The Palace has suggested that people could make a charitable donation to one of His Royal Highness’s many patronages, as a fitting way of paying tribute to his remarkable legacy.
A guide to His Royal Highness’s patronages, and how you can donate can be found on the web site link at the bottom of this post.

Stalbridge Town Council will fly the union flag at half mast on The Ring until the day after the funeral.

Cllr. Katie Garland , Chairman of Stalbridge Town Council, will be writing to Buckingham Palace on behalf of Stalbridge to express the town’s condolences at this sad time.

Roadmap out of lockdown

7/3/2021

Picture
The Government has outlined a 4 step Roadmap for easing the current lockdown. Their plan is to allow people to gradually spend more time outside and mixing with people.
They plan to do this in 4 steps. With each step you will be able to do more things and meet more people. They will only move from one step to the next if fewer people are catching COVID-19. Have a look at the infographic below to familiarise yourself with the proposed timeline.
roadmap out of lockdown

Roadmap out of lockdown

The easy to read version
Step 1. Meeting up with people:
  • Step 1. From Monday, 8 March you can go out for leisure or exercise with:
  • people in your household - i.e. the people you live with.
  • people in your support bubble -this is when 1 person living on their own joins up with another household.
  • 1 person who is not in your household or support bubble.
  • People who live in a care home - will be allowed 1 visitor.
  • You should still keep 2 metres away from people.

Step 2. From Monday, 29 March you will be able to:
  • meet in groups of 6 people outside, including in a private garden.
  • meet in groups of 2 households.
  • Outdoor sports places will open up again, like tennis or basketball courts, and open air swimming pools.
  • You should still stay at home as much as you can.
  • You should work from home if you can.
  • You won’t be able to travel abroad.
  • You should still keep 2 metres away from people.

Step 3. If things go well, step 2 will start on Monday, 12 April.
  • Shops will open, including:
  • hairdressers and nail salons
  • libraries and community centres
  • zoos and theme parks
  • drive-in cinemas
  • campsites and holiday cottages.
  • Indoor gyms will open up - but you have to go on your own or with people in your household.
  • Restaurants, cafés and pubs will be able to serve people sitting at a table outside.
  • You should keep to your household group or your support bubble.
  • You can have up to 30 people at a funeral and up to 15 people at a wedding, or an event to remember someone.
  • You should still keep 2 metres away from people.

Step 3. If things go well, step 3 will start on Monday, 17 May. From Monday, 17 May:
  • you can meet who you like outdoors but you can’t meet people in a group of over 30 people.
  • We will look at whether it is OK to be closer to people.
  • We will look at whether it is OK to hug people.
  • Restaurants, cafés and pubs will be able to serve people sitting at a table inside.
  • Other indoor places will also open, like cinemas, children’s play areas, hotels and bed and breakfast places.
  • Some larger outdoor sports and shows will be able to have people watching.
  • Up to 30 people will be able to go to weddings, funerals and events to remember someone.

Step 4. If all goes well, step 4 will start on Monday, 21 June.
  • We hope to remove all the remaining rules that are stopping people from getting together.
  • Nightclubs will open and large events will be able to take place.

royal british legion poppy
In Stalbridge this year the Royal British Legion Stalbridge branch is working together with St Marys Church and the Town Council to facilitate community involvement in a safe  act of remembrance. To comply with social distancing measures and rules on gatherings as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic  we are altering the traditional format which has followed for many years
  • There will not be a parade to and from the Church
  • Acts of remembrance at the war memorial will be undertaken separately by individuals representing local groups and organisations.
  • In place of attending a gathering as an act of remembrance we are asking residents to:
  • Put pictures of big poppies in their house windows
  • Make donations for traditional paper poppies. (Available at all of the locations POSTED BELOW).
  • Stand at their front doors at 11am on Sunday 8th November for the two minutes silence as safe act of remembrance with neighbours.
  • Support the RBL charity campaign by making online donations.

Click on the poppy above for a link to to print paper poppies or make an online donation
We hope to take some photographs to share with the community .
We appreciate your co-operation as we enter another period of lockdown. We look to the example of those brave individuals who strove to re-build their lives which had been devastated by conflict and war.
These arrangements are subject to change at short notice in accordance with
covid 19 restrictions.
